Bertie Edna Bates, age 90, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday, November 3, 2023 at her home.

She was born January 12, 1933 in Dalton, Georgia, a daughter of the late Lloyd T. and Callie Rose Ross Dills. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Bates, a son, Willard Bates, daughter, Glenda Pangle, brothers, Homer Dills and Jesse Dills and sisters, Ella Cross, Viola Shipman, Callie Rose Plott, Bonnie Witt, Mamie Tanner and Katherine Coleman.

She worked many years at Soloman White Company, Aladdin Mills and her last work was at Antioch Elementary School Cafeteria where all the kids called her "Granny".

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jack Craig of Dalton, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Tammy Bates, and Steve and Tiffany Bates; special niece, Frances and Jackie Etheridge, all of Dalton, GA; twenty grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, several other nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bertie Edna Bates will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Adam Harrison officiating. She will be laid to rest at New Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery
