FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT DAVIS FOR BEN C. SLAUGH

Last Thursday at 1 p.m. funeral services were held for Benjamin C. Slaugh, 78, in the Davis Ward Chapel. Mr. Slaugh succumbed Monday. Services were conducted by Bishop Wallace Slaugh and the speakers were Van Massey and Joseph Collier. The opening prayer was by Walter Simper and benediction Henry Slaugh. "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "We Shall Meet Beyond the River" were sung by the Davis Ward chorus "A Hope Beyond The Grave" was a duet by Ina Chivers and Elva Manwaring. Lowe Goodrich played a violin solo and James Calder gave a reading "Coming of the Savior."

The grave at Vernal Memorial Park was dedicated by Bishop Alfred Simper. Pallbearers were Cecil Holmes, Benjamin Holmes, Hal Cook, Dean Slaugh, Glen Cook, Don Cook, all grandsons of the deceased.

Mr. Slaugh was born November 19, 1867 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of George Slaugh and Mary Ivory. He crossed the plains as a youth and settled in Pleasant Grove in 1889.

When Mr. Slaugh was 21 he moved to Ashley Valley and homesteaded in Davis where he spent the rest of his life. In 1892 he married Rachel Smuin who died in August 1943.

Mr. Slaugh is survived by nine children, Benjamin G., Charles D., Hyrum, Lyle, Iva Holmes, Cora Cook, Rose Cook, Cynthia Cook, Katherine Lopez and 67 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren. There are 13 sons in service.

He was an Elder in the LDS Church and was active in various offices of the church.

Outside visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Martin, Mr. and Mrs. George Fage and Mrs.Ella Tomlinson, all of Pleasant GRove; Mr. and Mrs. John Atwood and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Atwood of Canada

Benjamin Croft Slaugh, forty year resident of Vernal, Utah, died instantly July 1, 1945 of myocarditis at his residence. He was seventy-eight years old. His wife preceded him in death. His usual occupation was rancher.

He was born November 19, 1866 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mary and George Slaugh. Swain Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements. He was laid to rest in the Vernal Memorial Park on July 5, 1945

Benjamin Croft Slaugh is the son of Mary Magdeline Ivory and George Jacob Schlag. Benjamin married Rachel Cynthia Smuin.

They had fifteen children. Eight children have died: Cynthia Jane Slaugh, Cora Eliza Slaugh, Mary Ellen Slaugh, Charlie David Slaugh, Benjamin George Slaugh, Hyrum William Slaugh and Emma Ivy Slaugh.
