Shirley, originally from Chicago, Illinois, moved with her family to Decatur, GA. She attended Decatur Girls High School. She soon met the love of her life, John, at the bowling alley. Thus, the journey begins.
Shirley and John were married in 1948. Shirley was working for the phone company so John could attend college at GA Tech. He subsequently landed a position at Lockheed.
She was very involved in their clogging (Lil Foot Stompers) and square dancing groups--from sewing costumes to handling everything behind the scenes. She volunteered at The Place of Forsyth County for 20 years alongside her husband.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and John Powell; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jan Walters; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Julie Walters, and son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jewell Walters. Survivors also includes 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
