Doris Dean "Dot" Ellis, 94, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Ridgecrest Retirement and Care Center in Waco.

Graveside service will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 11:00 am at Harris Creek Cemetery.

Dot was born in Dewville, Texas where she grew up. She lived with her sister Bernice and her husband in Marshall, TX for a while before visiting Harris Creek Church with them for a revival where she met her husband, Paul Ellis. They were married on March 27, 1947.

She attended nursing school at Hillcrest Hospital in 1963. She was employed for a short time at the hospital before going to work for Dr. Walter B. King, Jr., for 28 years.

She was a member of Woodway Baptist Church. Her hobbies were reading, cooking, and caring for her family, and she excelled in all three.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ellis, parents John Henry and Myrtie Batey, sisters Faye Batey, Erma Hensley, Bernice Dingler, and Opal Davis.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine "Janey" DeJonghe and her husband, Greg, of McGregor; son, Joe and his wife, Virginia, of McGregor and their children Tyler, Eric and his wife, Cierra, and daughter Eleni, and Chandler and her husband, Ben Dickerson; and also grandson Zachary Ellis and his wife, Leah, and children Avery, Owen, Anderson, and Emmalyn.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Ellis, Tyler Ellis, Eric Ellis, Palmer Keith, Earl Walter, and Keith Pate with honorary pallbearer Josh McCoy.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mike Loden and the incredible assisted living staff of Ridgecrest for the kind and compassionate care given to our Mom and our family.
