Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Captain Wood (Company A, 97th Illinois Infantry) led a volunteer storming party which made a most gallant assault upon the enemy's works at Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 22, 1863 during the Civil War. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions.
