Walter T. Banker, 73, of 63 Greenhaven Road, Wequetequock, Conn., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Miriam Hospital, Providence, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Madeline "Mim" (Crowley) Banker.
Born April 1, 1928, in Pawcatuck, he was a son of the late John G. and Ida Mae (Gavitt) Banker.
Mr. Banker was employed as a lineman for Narragansett Electric, retiring in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, being honorably discharged.
An avid gardener, carpenter, and farmer, he was an original member and past deputy chief of the Wequetequock Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Walter E. "Gene" and Nadine Banker and J. Leo and Cheryl Banker, all of North Stonington, and Michael J. and Mary Ellen Banker and Donald T. and Rhonda Banker, all of Wequetequock; two brothers, Donald Banker of Wequetequock and Francis "Fritz" Banker of Pawcatuck; and 11 grandchildren.
Calling hours tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. are in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. The funeral service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Liberty Street, Pawcatuck.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to St. Michael School, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, CT 06379.
