Mr. James H. Abercrombie, 79, of Oakwood, GA passed away June 22, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Clyde Self will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will received friends at the funeral Home on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Born on March 14, 1935 in Dawson County, GA., he was the son of the late Henry James Abercrombie and Irene A. Bennett.

Captain Abercrombie was employed with the Gainesville City Fire Department for 29 years. During his tenure with the Fire Department he was dispatcher and retired from the City of Gainesville as a fire marshal. He later went with North Ga 9th District as a project coordinator.

He was a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge F&AM 219 and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step father, Wilbert Bennett; grandfather, Dillard Elliott and grandmother Pearl Elliott.

Mr. Abercrombie is survived by his wife, Geneva Abercrombie of Oakwood; daughter, Mary Abercrombie Grindle of Gainesville; son, William Todd Abercrombie of Buford; granddaughters, Misty Dawn Pirkle, Nabrina LeAnn Wallace, Chelesa Brooke Hobson, Calista Blair Abercrombie; grandson, Austin Taylor Grindle; 6 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Matthew, Jada, Karli, Logan and Mayhem; 5 step grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Annette and Lamar Grizzle of Gainesville; brother, Dwight Bennett of Gainesville; brother and sister in law, Mike and Mary Beth Bennett of Chestnut Mountain sisters in law, Juanita Helton and Laverne Porter of Gainesville; brother in law, Wilburn Jones of Gainesville.
