Robert Kramer, 86, of Equinunk, PA, and Palm Springs, CA, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at home.

Bob was born on May 8, 1935 in Milford, Massachusetts, the son of Gordon and Ida Kramer, dutch immigrants who came through Ellis Island as teenagers and settled in Massachusetts and became dairy farmers. Bob grew up there with seven other brothers and sisters. Following graduation from Holliston High School in 1953, he found employment, securing a job as assistant comptroller for the Town of Natick, Mass. It was then that he began attending night school at Bentley Collage to further his interests in accounting and finance, becoming alumnus in 1966. His hard work and determination paid off when he was offered and accepted a position with Dow Jones as an accountant in NYC, later relocating to Princeton, NJ, when the company moved their administrative offices there. He continued his educational pursuits by attending night classes at Seton Hall University, attaining a B.S. in management in 1967. He also pursued graduate work in College Fiscal Management at the University of Nebraska, which prepared him for his next job as Controller of the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. But most of his career was at the Swain School, a private school in Allentown, PA, where he was their Business Manager. During his years there he was instrumental in the passage of a Senate bill made into law to save money for educational institutions and human services agencies. He retired from there in March, 1997, after twenty years. Bob was proud of the fact that from his humble beginnings on a dairy farm, he was able to achieve his educational and career goals solely through hard work and determination. He was a self made man.

With his managerial and financial background, Bob remained active in his retirement. He was instrumental in starting and raising funds for many organizations. Especially interested in history, he was a founding member of the Equinunk Historical Society. He was there at the inception when the Calder House was purchased. His guidance continued when as past president and incorporator and past treasurer. He was chairperson of the Joel Hill water powered sawmill overhauling committee from 1988-2000. He received a distinguished service award from the Equinunk Historical Society for his dedicated service to the Hill Sawmill in 1995. He was a founding member of the Historical Society's Annual Car Show committee and remained active in the Historical Society's biggest fundraising and social event for many years.

Bob's interests in history and preservation were furthered by his former membership in the Hancock-Cochecton Historical Society and current membership in the Upper Delaware Heritage Alliance from which he received an award for the restoration of a circa 1830 barn that took eleven years to restore and served as his residence for many years. He also received a merit award in 2001 for outstanding contribution to the preservation of the Upper Delaware Valley. Bob was also a former Director of the Wayne County Community Foundation; a member of the Wayne County Historical Society; the Institute of Management Accounts from which he received a man of the year award from the Princeton, NJ, Chapter; founding member of the Independent School Business Offices of Eastern Pennsylvania; a member of the Holliston Historical Society; the Rail Trail Council, the Delaware Highlands Conservancy; the Palm Springs Art Museum; Front Runners and Walkers, Palm Springs, CA; and former President of the Equinunk Cemetery Association.

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army, both active and the reserves. He regularly attended services at the Cold Springs/Rileyville Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Bloom in the Desert Ministries, in Palm Springs, CA.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed gardening and photography. He also enjoyed reading biographies and fiction writers, Grisham and Baldacci.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother, five brothers, Harry Kramer, Francis Kramer, Clarence Kramer, Gordon Kramer, Jr., and Donald Kramer, and a sister, Sarah Sherman. He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Jensen, and long time friend, Donald Torre.

A graveside service with burial will be held in Equinunk Cemetery, Equinunk, PA, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11AM.

Donations can be made in Bob's memory to a favorite charity of one's choice.
