Son of Francis J. Farren and Noreen M. Farren who resided at 1108 West Sixth Street, Wilmington, Delaware. Gerald served as a Sergeant as a waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 600th Bomb Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was "Killed In Action" on May 19, 1944 in a bombing raid over Berlin, Germany. Farren's aircraft was damaged on a raid over Berlin city on 19 May 1944 and crash-landed at the Polish village of Stara Rudnica 40 miles away. He was originally buried in Stara Rudnica and was repatriatied home to Wilmington after the war.
