Joseph Iadone was born Sept. 5, 1914, and attended the Yale University School of Music, where he studied with the famed German composer Paul Hindemith. This is where he met Martha Grubb, who was also studying there on scholarship. They married in 1944. Their son Mark Allen was born in 1945, followed by George Paul in 1946 and James Frederick in 1948. They were divorced in 1953. After graduating from Yale, Joe and his wife moved to her hometown of Denver, Colorado, where they both taught music and peformed in various musical events. After their divorce, Joe lived for a time at his studio at 1115 Grant St., before moving back to the east coast where he continued studying and teaching. Joe was a virtuoso of both the guitar and the lute, and taught ancient musical history and technique at a number of universities and colleges around the East Coast. He also produced many CDs of his lute music, which are still available in stores and online. Joseph Iadone passed away on March 23, 2004, at the age of 89, in West Haven, Connecticut.
