My Dear Maternal GRANDFATHER

His daughter was Eleanor, my mother.

He was FIRE-CHIEF-ELECT, Fire Captain
and a true HERO

HE SAVED MANY LIVES

----

Grampa Served in the Army in WW-1
in France 1918-1920

And He also served in the MARINES
"SEMPER FI" circa 1928
----

He married MY GRAMMA MABEL
in Boston January 8, 1930

I never got to meet my grandfather,
because he died before I was born.

There is one photo here with
my mother age 17 and her Dad in
His Fire Captain's Uniform and they
are on their way to the Fireman's Ball
Behind them is their Home in Fall River

My GrandFather just LOVED HIS
ROSE GARDENs in Their Back Yard

He served in fighting the
famous Fall River fire of 1928,
and he saved many lives while
serving and helping others.

He became fire-Chief-elect,
but he collapsed at 60 years old, in my mother's arms,
in Fall River, MA, shortly after he came home from a deadly fire; AND just days before he was to take office for Fire Chief

My mother said that when she was young, their house was one of the very few houses that had a telephone,
because
her father, ED, was a fireman, and they had to have a way to contact him in case of a fire.

People would line up at my grandparents door, at times, and pay change to use the phone.

A FIREMAN's PRAYER, put on this memorial
in 2008 ...
(He carried this prayer with him)

"When I am called to duty, God,
Wherever flame may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late,
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor
And protect his property.

And if according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with Your protecting hand
My children and my wife"

of silver, Is a word spoken in
right circumstances"
