Walter Jacob Gerhardt Phillips, 91, of Stevensville, MI passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at West Woods of Bridgman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Rev. David Hills officiating. Burial to follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. Walter was born on September 24, 1927 to Stephan and Elisabeth (Bader) Phillips near Richardton ND. He proudly served his country in the US Army. On May 18, 1947 he married Janet DeMorrow in Stevensville. He worked as a printing press operator and retired from Imperial Printing after 40 years of dedicated service.
A man of many hobbies, Walter enjoyed taxidermy, boating, gardening, and being the consummate handyman. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion and the Southwest Michigan Car Club. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Walter is survived by his sons, Gregory Phillips of Forest Park, IL and Larry (Judy) Phillips of Waterford MI; six grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Phillips; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; and siblings, Stephen Phillips, Barbara Gerger, Theresa Hosnedl, Valeria Schmidt, and Hilda Weber.
