Susan Rae Sears was born April 18, 1950, in Spencer, Iowa to Viola and Harold Roskens.
She received her education and graduated from Everly High School, Everly, Iowa. While in school, Susan was active in Speech, Science Club, Girls Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, and was a class officer. Growing up on a farm, she also was active in 4-H, and learned at a young meaning the word "work"
Being the eldest of five, there was lots of cooking, cleaning, canning, and household duties. Attending Everly First Reformed Church, Susan was active in RCYF, and it was there that she professed her faith.
Sue, as her friends called her, attended Spencer School of Business and after graduating found employment at People's Natural Gas, where she worked for 40 years.
On August 29, 1975, Sue was married to Rony Craig Sears at Hope Reformed Church, where she was a member to this day. Following their marriage they resided in Spencer.
On April 18, Lucas Craig Sears was born, to be followed by Rhonda Sue Sears July 23. This completed their family.
In 1984 they made a dream come true by purchasing a small home on Lake Okoboji, and years later buying a larger one, in which Susan resided until her death.
In later years, they purchased a home in Casa Grande Az, where they enjoyed winters together until Ron's death in 2012.
Sue continued to go to AZ until her health wouldn't allow her anymore. Susan and Ron were active in the Old Iron Company, and the Okoboji Corvette Club.
They spent many weekends camping and traveling to different shows to, display the many cars and boats that Ron had restored.
Susan was very active in the community, having been in charge of the Flag Fest Parade for many years. Being an active volunteer for Spencer, she received an award from Governor Branstad for Volunteer of the Year.
Together, Ron and Sue hosted omelet breakfasts in Okoboji and AZ, which she continued to do after Ron's passing. She was well known for her fried chicken! Potato salad and spaghetti dinners!
She also was the bookkeeper for Lundt and Sears, as well as raising her children and attending their school events. Susan's pride and joy were her grandkids, Tallen, Halle, Maggie, Elsie, Gage,and Leo.
She took great joy in watching football, swimming, dance, basketball, soccer, and whatever activities they participated in. Sue said her greatest sorrow was that she won't get to see her grandkids grow up.
Susan was well known for her love of embroidering baby quilts, which were gifted to so many people. She loved to can, sew, spend time at the beach, and was always up to spend time with friends and family. In AZ Sue looked forward to her kids visiting and was Activities Committee President for Fairways 55, as well as playing cards and sewing at the center with her friends.
In June of 2019 Sue was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Peritoneal cancer, which she fought valiantly and without complaint for two years.
Left to cherish Sue's memory are her kids, Luke (Jill), Halle, Maggie and Gage Sears; Rhonda Sears (Dustin Fairchild) Tallen, Elsie and LEO. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Holven ,TJ and Courtney Holven, Carter, Rylee, and Aleah; brothers Steven Roskens, Chelsea and Josh Petersen, Kendyl and Gavin; Stanley and Susan Roskens, Sidney and Marge Roskens, Brother-in-law Jerry Sears (Jenni and Wade), Uncle Elmer (Marge) Nielsen, many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ron, and sister-in-law, Sharon Sears.
