He was born April 23, 1934 in Uniontown, a son of the late Oliver L. and Margaret (Maxwell) Colbert and biological mother, Anna Owad Polato.
He was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelist Lutheran Church, Connellsville. James was a Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Fulton which was a sub tender to the Nautilas, which was our country's first atomic submarine. He was a long time member of the Connellsville American Legion Post #301.
Jim was a retired pipefitter with the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union #354 of Youngwood with 59 years of service.
In his spare time, he loved gardening both flowers and vegetables and was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Faye (Baughman) Colbert; daughter, Lori Duncan and husband, Patrick; son, Dr. Mark Colbert and wife, Dr. Stacey; grandchildren, Michael Polito and Kate Colbert; sisters, Jeanne Emerick and Patricia King; sister-in-laws, Diane Showman and husband, Thomas and Melonie Eicher; many nieces and nephews who were all special to him and his furry friend, Bunny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Colbert and John Colbert.
Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville on Monday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10am until the hour of the funeral service at 11am with Pastor Daniel Clark officiating.
Interment will follow at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville with full Military Rites accorded at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 301&762 and VFW Post#21.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of James to St. John's Evangelist Lutheran Church; P.O. Box 489 Connellsville, PA 15425.
