Monica Lynne Holland departed this life on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. She was born on August 4, 1970, in Summit, New Jersey, to the late Marcia and Kenneth Holland. As a child, she enjoyed going to Echo Lake with her family and hanging out with friends. She loved to dance, and in the 2nd grade, performed in the MLK program sponsored by the Union Township Community Action Organization. She enjoyed modeling, singing, and roller skating at Skate 22 with her friends. If she was not at home, you would find her with the Chambers sisters.

Early on, she had an interest in the medical field. In high school, she enrolled in the State HOSA Dental Spelling Competition in Princeton, placing first. Monica graduated from Union High School on June 26, 1988.

During her youth, she sang in the choir at Macedonia Christian Church in Vauxhall, NJ where she was actively involved and baptized. Later she received the right hand of fellowship on March 2, 2014, at Antioch Baptist Church in Springfield, NJ.

Monica was blessed with her son Brandon on October 2, 1990, who she loved so dearly. Monica was his biggest cheerleader at his football games and in life. She would always have hilarious stories to tell about his childhood adventures. When Brandon and Tiana had her first grandchild, Kaelyn, she was beyond thrilled. Speaking of Kaelyn, her face would light up, showing updated pictures or videos to share with everyone.

Monica loved learning. In June of 2003 and 2004, she received certificates from the Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church Education Department: Through the Bible in One Year and Old Testament Theology. While studying Histotechnician Technology at the Delaware Technical & Community College, she was recognized for Outstanding Academic Achievement. She also received the National Student Honor Award in the medical laboratory sciences from the American Society for Clinical Pathology. In 2005 she received her Associate degree in Applied Science. She then attended The University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware, to study Biotechnology. In 2012 Monica studied Nursing part-time at Union County College/Trinitas School of Nursing in Elizabeth, NJ. While attending, in 2013, she obtained the Arthur, Caroline & George Small Memorial Scholarship Award and was inducted into the Psi Beta Chapter National Honor Society in Psychology. Although her career started out as a bank teller, while working on earning her degree in nursing, Monica worked as a reception clerk for Destiny Realty and then became a certified as a substitute teacher in 2017 working in the Union County school system.

Monica lived each day as if it were her last. She never allowed her health problems to get in her way. She would always say she has things to do and places to go. Monica is preceded in death by her parents Marcia and Kenneth Holland. She leaves her loving family to celebrate her life in memory: son Brandon Hatcher, granddaughter Kaelyn Hatcher, sister Kendal Holland, brother Kenneth R. Holland, niece Tajiya Holland, dear friend Dana Hazzard, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
