Miriam Martinez of Hartford, CT, beloved wife of the late Ismael Torres, passed away peacefully at her son's home on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Miriam was born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Ramon Martinez and Felina Rodriguez, and lived in Long Island, NY, prior to moving to Hartford in 1976. She was a proud and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she spent her life taking care of her family.

Miriam was a kind and gentle spirit who was a light in everyone's life. To know her was to love her and she was a mother to everyone. Miriam had a giving, loving, and forgiving nature. She gave to a fault and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for anyone. She knew that the people she loved were more important than anything and leaves a legacy of memories that she has planted in their hearts. Miriam was the matriarch of her family and the glue that kept everyone together.

Miriam was an amazing cook and loved to create Spanish dishes for her family and friends. Her house was always immaculate and you could always find her cleaning. It was important to her that her children were independent and she taught them all to cook, clean, and look after one another. More than anything, she enjoyed having her family over for holiday dinners, where she would cook and entertain everyone. Miriam also loved to play cards, especially Rummy 500, and she was incredible at making Jig Saw Puzzles. She was a Zombie fanatic and also loved to watch all kinds of horror movies on the Sci-Fi channel.

Miriam is survived by her loving children, her only daughter, Milagros, and six sons, Josie, Jaime, Flor, Angel, Edwin, and Fabian; as well as her siblings, Lucy, Iris, Peter, and Miguel; her grandchildren, especially the four she raised, Angel, Marcus, Rosalyn, and Raquel; and many great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and love of her life, Ismael Torres, she was predeceased by three sons, Gil, Fabian, and Jose; and three brothers, Cheo, Carlos, and Oscar; and her sister, Amparo.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 30, 10 a.m.-12 Noon, with a 12 Noon Celebration of Life, at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
