Kurt Hoffmann was a government master builder (Regierungsbaumeister, Baurat) in Berlin. As the son of Friedrich Eduard Hoffmann, the inventor of the ring kiln for brick production (Ringofen-Erfinder) and whose wife Bertha Hoffmann, he inherited a company empire which he generously expanded, including in Africa. Kurt Hoffmann volunteered as an officer at the age of 61 and died of overexertion in Saint Quentin, France, one year later. His widow Frieda Marie Hoffmann, nee Pauktat (1858-1940), fulfilled his last wish and left a representative mausoleum on what was then the Waldfriedhof Friedenau Götergotz (Forest Cemetery) (since 1937 Waldfriedhof Friedenau Güterfelde, today Wilmersdorfer Waldfriedhof Güterfelde, Potsdam) build a burial place.
