Dr. Paul Phillip Cooley, passed away at home on June 28, 2021. He was born in Muncie, Indiana August 13, 1941 to the late Paul and Rebecca F. Cooley (Leyland).
Phil graduated from Muncie Central High School, Ball State Teachers College and Indiana University School of Medicine. He did his internship at Ball Memorial Hospital before being drafted by the United States Army, where he served as a physician for three years in Germany and the Netherlands. He returned to Muncie and began a practice in family medicine in Yorktown. He practiced in Muncie for many years before retiring from practice at American Health Network in 2007.
Dr. Cooley was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity, Delaware Blackford County Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and Muncie Rotary Club.
Phil played in Muncie's Hometown Band since its inception, was on its board of directors, and was a co-director and pianist in its swing big band. He played piano for Vera Mae's Bistro for several years and enjoyed being in small jazz ensembles that played for various organizations.
Phil is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cooley; Sydney Cooley of Bayfield, CO, Patrick Cooley of Indianapolis, IN, Ashley Hintzen or Altamonte Springs, FL, Courtney Cooley of Orlando, FL; Three grandchildren.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents.
