Michael Wayne Peters, 61, of McKinney, TX (formerly of Warrensburg, IL) went on to his next adventure in life, after declaring his freedom and independence from cancer on July 4, 2020, in his home surrounded by family and friends.

Michael was born February 19, 1959 in Decatur, IL to Effie O'Dell (Sue) Nickerson, and Paul Wayne (Pete) Peters. Michael graduated from Warrensburg/Latham High School in 1977. Shortly after graduating, Michael entered the US ARMY earning the title of Specialist 4. While in the ARMY, Michael earned an Expert Badge with an M16 rifle, and a Sharpshooter Badge with Hand Grenades. After serving his country he continued to work for the military with the US AIR FORCE, and the US NAVY as a civilian for the Raytheon Company as a Senior Electrical Engineer where he performed field operations, flight tests, and system integrations. Raytheon afforded Michael the ability to travel the world with experiences that others could only dream of. He spent time in Kandahar, Afghanistan; Balad, Iraq; Munich, Germany; and Djibouti City, Djibouti in Africa to name a few. Michael retired from Raytheon in 2014 after 32 years of service to his company and his country.

Michael married Rondella (Denise) Nicholas on July 1, 1980 in Fillmore, Illinois, she preceded him in death on June 25, 2016. Michael has 2 cherished daughters, Melissa (Cassie) Frost of Ft. Worth, TX, and Samantha (Kyle Larson) Peters of McKinney, TX, both of whom survive. Michael is also survived by his mother Effie Nickerson, sisters Billie Anne (Terry) Richert, Tina Maurer, and Tamula Roberts, and brother Robert Lowe all of Decatur, IL, grandchildren Riely, Griffyn, & Devilyn Frost, and Kaitlyn Lee all of Ft. Worth, TX, and Ember Larson of McKinney, TX, special uncle Edward Cook of Gilman, IL, close friends Christy Weaver, and Kris Bramlett of Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Paul Wayne Peters, sister Pamela Rose Lowe, aunt Virginia Cook and bonus father George Lowe, and his grandparents.

A celebration of life will be held in McKinney, TX at the American Legion, and in Decatur, IL at The Prairieland Abate at a later date due to COVID-19.

Michael will be buried in Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

Michael lived 1000 years in the short 61 calendar years that we had with him because he lived life every day by grabbing it by the lapels, kissing it, and tossing it back on to the dance floor. Michael was always ready to travel the world with his family and friends, never slowing down, even after his diagnosis in 2018. Michael was a true ladies man that loved to ride his motorcycles (and pick up chicks with his daughter Melissa), scuba diving, and traveling to exotic places (and some not so exotic) to meet new people that would quickly become friends from all over the world.
