Best known locally as the TV repairman at Wayland Vereen's in Southport during the mid-late 1970's. He was the youngest child of James W. and Edith Louise Mantell McMillion. He worked as a television repairman in New Castle, Delaware before moving with his family to southeastern North Carolina sometime between 1972-73. He volunteered his time and talents with the restoration of the Frying Pan Lightship #115 in Southport, along with his wife, son and sister-in-law Irene; as well as pursuing boating and scuba diving in his spare time. He also loved cats, German Shepherd and border collie dogs, and playing the Hawaiian guitar.

Preceding him in death were his parents and older brother Henry McMillion who was killed in action during World War II. He was survived by his wife Geneva and son Gene Jr., both of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Ley and family from New Castle; an older brother, James McMillion Jr. of Southport; a sister, Lucy Prchal and her husband Joe of Parkville, Maryland; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
