Helen was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, on September 16, 1932 to Ervin Edgar Dover and Willie Jane Felts Dover. She was the sixth of seven children and graduated from Mt Pleasant High School in Mt Pleasant, AR. After graduation she moved to Little Rock for three years prior to marrying Cordell Vest, an officer in the United States Air Force. Their first permanent assignment was Clark Air Force Base, The Philippines, where she attended the Clark Air Force Base branch of the University of The Philippines for one semester. For the next two decades she lived in a number of military locations, including Uchitomari, Okinawa, Dover, Delaware, and Wethersfield, England, where her three children were born.

Helen went to work at the Seymour Johnson Officers Club in 1972 as an administrator/event planner. She was remarried in 1974 to Joe Holland, an Engineering Technician at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, North Carolina. From there they moved to Valdosta, Georgia and Fort Walton Beach, Florida respectively. She worked at a small hospital in Niceville, Florida until 1980 and moved back to Little Rock, Arkansas after Joe's death.

Once back in Little Rock, Helen worked at the NAF Financial Management Office at Little Rock Air Force Base as a Purchasing Agent and enjoyed an active social life. She was active in the Greater Little Rock chapter of Parents without Partners as well as Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an avid bowler, Bunco player, and Tai Chi participant. She retired in 1999 with 26 years of cumulative service.

Helen and her brothers and sisters were very close, having lived through many uncertain times. They enjoyed simple pleasures, including piano, which became a very important part of their lives, and basketball, which was a very important part of their school years. She is a devoted mother and grandmother, and has always been close to her children.

Helen's travels and diversity of experiences gave her a unique character of confidence, optimism, and generosity. Her quick smile and infectious laugh endeared her to all who knew her. Her leadership and ability to take on challenges earned her the respect of many.

She also had her own brand of philosophy. Thanks to a relentless sweet tooth, she advocated eating dessert first, then the rest of the meal. She subscribed to the notion that Life Begins at 80 (Author Unknown) because "at 80 you have the perfect excuse no matter what you do…people forgive you for anything…everyone wants to carry your baggage and help you up the steps…"

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Pallbearers: Luke Martin, Ryan King, Michael Griffin, Doug Dover, Cory Sturdivant.
