Charles M. Greene was born on July 6, 1935, to the late parents of Sam Greene and Velma Grant in Lexington, MS. He was the eldest of five children. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and loved God with his whole heart.

Most of his childhood and teenage years were spent in Lexington, MS where he then met and married the love of his life Gertrude Winston. In 1957, Charles and Gertrude moved to Chicago, IL where they started their life and family.

After studying at Malcom X College, his career spanned from employee to entrepreneur, starting as a Chicago Specialty Police Officer to owning both Greene's Restaurant and CGB Tours Chartered Bus Service. Later, he was employed by the City of Chicago Department of Sewers, were he retired, after serving well over 25 years as a supervisor.

Charles had an extreme love for carpentry, music, and sports. One of his highlights in life was being the booking manager of the Chicago gospel singing group The Beautiful Tones, where he often referred to them as "They are the Tones and I am the Beautiful." Because of his love for music, he taught himself to play the bass and became the bass player for The Beautiful Tones.

Of his many accomplishments, the one that brought him most joy was being married to his sweetheart Gertrude Greene for 63 years. And not to mention, he was a proud father of Barbara, Michael and Tywanna.

Charles was a long-standing member of Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church joining under the late Pastor Milton Brunson and remained faithfully serving as a deacon under Pastor Michael Wright until his health declined. He absolutely loved his church and found great joy and pleasure talking about the Lord.

Charles was a fun loving and caring man who would always extend himself beyond the call of duty. And if you know him, then you know he never met a stranger. He was definitely a jokester and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Greene and Velma Grant; three brothers: Sam, Louis and James Greene; and sister, Geneva Morris.

His love and memories will forever be cherished and remembered by his loving wife Gertrude Greene; two daughters: Barbara Greene and Tywanna Greene; one son: Michael Greene (Debbie); four grandchildren: Erica Greene, Jennifer Wagner (Keith), Rebecca Greene and Michael Greene II; two great grandchildren: Scarlett and Lilah ; two sisters in law: Julia Greer (Jack) and Thelma Greene; longtime friends Robert and Dorothy Bounds; godchildren: Melvin and Sharon Peoples and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
