Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday followed by Rosary at 7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler. James Phillip "Phil" Hess, age 85 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, June 26, 2021 at St. Luke's Health Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born August 23, 1935 to James George and Mary Genevieve Ellis Hess in Iola, Kansas. He married Margaret Evelyn Nelson August 24, 1963.

Phil is survived by three daughters, Mary Hess of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sarah Gentry and husband Brad of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Elizabeth Rechenberg and husband Paul of Chesterfield, Missouri; two brothers, Robert Hess and wife Susie of Lawrence, Kansas and Bernard Hess and wife Patsy of Humboldt, Kansas; one sister, Mary Brigham of New Braunfels, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Maria Enders and husband Jonathan, Adam Gentry and wife Shelby, Nathan Gentry, Emma Rechenberg, Kathryn Rechenberg, Thomas Rechenberg and Nicholas Rechenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret Hess in 2017; two brothers, Jerome and Charles; two sisters, Ann Ballenger and Julie Hess; and a granddaughter, Mariana Rechenberg.
