Elsie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age, she joined Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Indianapolis, IN. on January 20, 1966, under the guardianship of the late Reverend John W. Short and later, Dr. Sterling L. Williams. Elsie served as a faithful member of 55 years at Greater Morning Star, holding positions as a Sunday School Teacher, Nurse's Aide, and the Pastor's and Church Anniversary committee until her health started to decline.
As a teen, Elsie wed Glynn Fisher, Sr., and to this union had seven children. Later in life, she wed Alton Cletus Wiggins and shared a life of love for 43 years and to this union they had one child.
Elsie possessed a strong work ethic and was employed for many years in the housekeeping department at the Indiana School for the Deaf until she retired. Her favorite pastimes were reading the Bible, sitting on her front porch talking and joking with her children, exercising, taking care of her grandchildren, and watching soap operas.
Elsie departed this life on Thursday, June 24, 2021, to be with her Heavenly Father at the age of 93 years, 2 months, and 19 days. She is preceded in death by her loving mother and father; her devoted and loving husband Alton Cletus Wiggins, her beloved brothers and sisters, Bervie Lawrence, O.B. Fields, Zella Fields, Olice Fields, and Ozella Coleman.
Elsie leaves to cherish her memory, eight children: Ann B. Darden (Dee), Charles B. Fisher (Alma), Shirley A. Peters, Glynn Fisher, Jr. (Debi), Janet D. Reid (Dannie), Gale D. Fisher, Sandra L. Johnson (Paul), and Charlotte M. Wiggins; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother and sisters – Charles B. Fields, Jr. (Betty), Ruth Williams, Lydia Smith, Barbie Jones, Erma Neal Ivy, Marshall Fields (Denice), Charlene Hurt (Johnny), Angela Reese (Dewayne), Janet Clark (Danny), and Janice Fields and a host of nieces, nephews, extended loved ones and friends.
