Bob was raised in Guilford, where he owned and operated Griswold's Department Store, a family business that started as The People's Cash Store in 1883. After graduating from Providence College in 1964, Bob bought Griswold's from his father and operated it for many years, expanding it to include The House Next Door. Many Guilford residents have fond memories of buying penny candy and scout uniforms at Griswold's. Bob closed the business and sold the property in 1981 after big box retail stores became popular. He and Bea followed their dream and bought a motorhome to travel the United States and parts of Canada and Mexico. On their return to Guilford, Bob resumed volunteering with GCTV. Bob then started his own business, B & B Video Productions, focusing on educational videos for nonprofit organizations. Ever the creative person, Bob produced the complete video, from writing the script to shooting and editing the project. He won several awards for his work. Bob was recently recognized for being a member of the Rotary Club of Guilford for 53 years. He was proud to be a Rotarian because of their impact on the local community and the world.
Bob enjoyed playing bridge, cooking for friends, having coffee at the dock, and planning picnics with Bea. He was known for his outgoing personality, love for his family, and sense of humor. Family members liked to say that Bob could find something in common with anyone he met, anywhere he went.
