Mary Roberta Potts passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 2, 2020.
She was born on October 19, 1923 in Woodward, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Leo and Stella Haught and had one older sister Mildred. Mary graduated from Woodard High School in 1941 and went on to attend college in Alva, Oklahoma. After returning to Woodward she worked at the local JC Penney where she met Vernon Potts. They went on to marry on June 15, 1945 and in September of the following year they had their first and only child, Larry. In the early 1950's, Mary, Vernon and Larry moved west to California where the family remained. Mary and Vernon were married for 32 years until Vernon's unexpected passing in February of 1979. Mary chose to never remarry.

Mary spent her later years traveling to local casinos, playing the penny slots with her senior citizen group and teaching rummy to her grandchildren. She loved her soap operas, especially All My Children and General Hospital. Mary was quite thrifty and knew how to stretch every dollar. Her grandchildren will always remember the summer spent pulling runners for 25 cents. Never one to mince her words, Mary was intelligent, strong willed and fiercely independent. She remained so even after losing her eyesight in her late eighties. Although Mary was an introvert and lived mostly by herself, she loved her family very much and always stated how proud she was of her grandchildren and how grateful she was of the support and care she received form her son and daughter-in-law. She never forgot where she came from and always said she was a farmer's daughter.

Mary lived a long content life in the home she built with Vernon until her passing at the age of 96. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Rita Potts, granddaughter Lora and husband Sam Uglesic, and grandson Matthew Potts.

Her family is truly grateful for all the years of love and support she provided. Mary will forever be remembered and loved.
