She was born on August 9, 1936 in Duplin County; the daughter of the late Ennis and Florence Sholar Brown. She was also predeceased by her husband and father of her children, Billy Henderson and her late husband, Jimmy Davis Thornton.
Shirley was a life-long member of Oak Dale Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she served her Lord for many years.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Sheila Hohnsbehn and husband, Arthur of Garner, Brenda Raynor and husband, Heber of Beuliville, Linwood Henderson and wife, Karren and Danny Henderson and wife, Sherry, all of Wallace; grandchildren, Daniel Raynor, Jacob Raynor and wife, April, Megan Henderson, Baille Buckley and husband, Michael, and Tyler Hohnsbehn; great grandchildren, Emma Raynor, Landin Raynor and Payton Henderson;sisters, Helen Henderson of Wallace, Doris Mott of Harrells, Linda Mott and her husband, J.W., of Wallace; brothers, Clifton Brown and wife, Frances of Wallace, Jackie Brown of Harrells, Bobby Ray Mobley and wife, Love of Wallace; numerous nieces, nephews, extended familiy and friends that loved Shirley dearly.
Shirley loved her family dearly and was very devoted to each one of them. She was a diligent homemaker and with a joyful spirit she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. Being a good neighbor and friend Shirley was loved by all who knew her. She loved her Lord and lived her life based on Christian principles. By example, she instilled her Christian values in her children. Shirley's family is grateful to God for her life and they consider themselves to be very blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister.
