The son of John Henry Reel and Virginia Stanley Edrington Reel, Charles was an allied member of John and Betty More's Jonas line. He was raised at Saint Ferdinand, Missouri where his father was the owner and operator of a farm. Charles married to Charlotte Preston on 28 December 1901 at Kingston, New York. They made their home at this place where he was a civil engineer. In 1917, he enlisted in Signal Division of Aviation Corps and trained at Kelly Field at San Antonio, Texas. Charles took 10 aerosquadrons from there to Mineola, Long Island and then to England and France. He learned to fly at Clermont-Ferrand (France), and was assigned as instructor and exhibition pilot. He was discharged from service in November of 1919. Charles returned to Kingston and took up his career as a civil engineer. He relocated to Manhattan, New York about 1930 where he was an aviation civil engineer. In 1941, he held the rank of lieutenant colonel and was an aeronautical engineer with the Air Corps. Charles and Charlotte were the parents of one child, John Gordon Reel.

*Note-family records indicate that Charles was born on the estate of Hawk Farm, Missouri. I found a Hawk Farm just northwest of Springfield, Missouri that had been in operation since 1833. The farm his father owned was about 215 miles northeast of there near Saint Louis, Missouri.
