Joyce graduated from Shortridge High School in 1966 and attended Ball State University.
Joyce retired from Pepsico after working 31 years in logistics. After retirement, she remained active in the community. Joyce was a member of the National Council of Negro Women, serving as a Treasurer; served as a member of the Shortridge High School Scholarship Committee; played an active role with the School 41 Alumni; volunteered with the Indianapolis Oasis as a reading tutor for elementary students and volunteered with AARP.
Joyce loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Joyce Savon Brooks departed this life on Monday, June 7, 2021, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her late parents, Zola and Harold Sargent.
She leaves to cherish memory her daughters, Kara Brooks and Khalisha Greenlaw (Gregory); grandchildren, Kameron Merkerson, Jaxon Greenlaw, and Jada Greenlaw; partner, Norman Smith; Aunt Helena Davis; and a host of cousins and friends.

From the Stuart Mortuary online obituary.∼Joyce Savon Brooks, 73, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her presence. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. Joyce especially enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren and serving as a volunteer for numerous organizations. she will be greatly missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Zola and Harold Sargent. She is survived by her daughters, Kara Brooks, Khalisha Greenlaw and her husband, Greg; grandchildren, Kameron, Jason, and Jada.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Witherspoon Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Viewing is from 10 am-12 pm and funeral at 12 pm. Face masks required.
