Dave Carlson, an entrepreneur and loving father of two wonderful children passed quietly with family at his bedside June 24, 2021 at Eagle's Trace Senior Living Community in Houston, Texas at the age of 63.

Dave was born in Glenview, Illinois to Allen and Lorie Carlson on August 24, 1958. Dave graduated Glenbrook South High School in Glenview in 1976, Taylor University with a degree in Computer Science in 1980, and Northwestern University with an MBA in 1986. Dave is survived by his children Ben and Grace Carlson, his sisters Jan Davis and Karen Hillstrom, his brother-in-laws Dave Hillstrom, Dennis Davis, and Darren Post, his sister-in-law Staci Post, his father-in-law Don Post, and his mother Lorie Carlson. He is preceded in death by his wife Lenora Carlson who he often said was the love of his life, his mother-in-law Vicki Post, and his father Allen Carlson.

Though Dave thought himself a man of verbal economy, those around him knew he could spin a side-splitting tale of friends, family, or work. His dry, incisive wit was as memorable to those in his personal life as it was useful in selling his vision of what the many companies he built could become. During the growth years of the startups he founded, Synhrgy Technologies and Empyrean Benefits Solutions, he was repeatedly nominated for Texas Entrepreneur of the Year. Dave loved to manage through the joys and difficulties that risk-taking entails. From investing his career in startups to his later years during which he served on the boards of multiple startups, Dave invested in people and encouraged those around him to envision a positive outcome in the uncertainty of life while working hard to make that outcome a reality. After his wife passed Dave battled personal difficulty by engaging with and becoming a part of the Houston sober living community. For more than ten years he remained a strong presence in the sober community and continued his sobriety for the rest of his life. His vivid storytelling, his calm demeanor, and his unfailing optimism will be missed by all those who knew him.
