William John Dietrich, Sr., 72, of New Buffalo, passed away on Saturday – June 19, 2021 in his home. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
William was born on November 24, 1948 in Michigan City, IN to the late William and Maryanne (Haura) Dietrich. He was a 1966 graduate of New Buffalo High School. After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1988. During his time in service, he sailed the seven seas, completed at least two tours in Vietnam, and earned several awards. On April 11, 1992 he married Vallery Gier in Norfolk, VA. William was an avid hunter, archer, and history buff; he was a member of the Tidewater Medievalist Group; a talented woodworker; and he had a brilliant mind playing many trivia games with his family. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
William is survived by his wife – Vallery; children – William "Sonny" Dietrich, Jr. of Porter, IN, Amy (Josh) Arnett-Markovic of Plano, TX and Jerrad Dietrich of Michigan City, IN; a step-son – Christopher Arnett of Virginia Beach, VI; grandchildren – Saleena, Drake, Logan, Corey, Heather, Dylan, and Gina (Russell); and seven great grandchildren.
