Ernest Lee Jones, 82 years of age and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at New Life Hospice in Lorain following a full and meaningful life.

Born February 9, 1939 in Somerset, Kentucky, Ernest made Amherst his home for most of his adult life.

Ernie retired from Ford Motor Company in 1995 after thirty years of service and was a faithful member of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst. He was a loyal and cherished husband of 61 years to his wife Helen and a loving father to Julie and Tim. He was known for putting his family and friends first and always being there to support them in whatever way he could. Ernie will be remembered for being very kind and loving. He was tough on the outside but soft and loving on the inside. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife Helen, doing so around the country on their many trips, and was an avid bowler who won many trophies. Ernie loved working on cars with his friends, collecting John Wayne memorabilia, and collecting comic books

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Helen Jones (nee: Dietrich); his children, Julie Switz (Robert) of New London, Timothy M. Jones (MariBess) of Watauga, Texas; his grandchildren, Jess Sanders (Keith), Steven Switz, Alex L. Switz (Hilary), Tiffany Fisher (Rusty) Caressa Jones; his great grandchildren Katelynn, Liam, Bailey and Kian; and his brother Roy Jones (Sally) of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Larry W. Jones, Ervin C. Jones and Joan in childbirth; and his parents Ervin and Eva Jones (Burton).

Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church; 323 North Lake Street, South Amherst. The Rev. Jayson Samons, pastor, will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ . Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
