Mary Ann York was thought to have been the Mary Ann McClain who married John Kirkpatrick in 1881. However, Mary Ann York who married Henry N. McClain in 1865 died in 1898. The March 18, 1898 edition of the Knoxville, Tennessee "The Morning Tribune" (page 3, column 4) stated "Mrs. McClain Dead. A message received in this city yesterday afternoon contained intelligence of the demise of Mrs. H. N. McClain, of Chattanooga, a sister of the late 'Squire Joseph York. Mrs. McClain was well known in this city and her many friends will be pained to learn of her death. Mr. Mark York left last night for Chattanooga to be present at the funeral and interment which will occur today."

Mary Ann McClain who married John Kirkpatrick did not die until 1924 and cannot be the Mary Ann York who married Henry N. McClain.
