He was born October 29, 1921 in Port Arthur, Texas to Fred Sangwin and Dora Stivner Sangwin.
Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War II.
He was a lifelong area resident and a member of Calvary Baptist Church Port Arthur. He retired after 32 years of service from the Port Arthur Fire Department as Fire Captain.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 ½ years, Virginia Sangwin, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Sangwin Mayer and husband Patrick of Kountze, Texas, his son, John W. Sangwin and wife Patricia of Port Arthur, Texas, grandchildren, Audrey Payne and husband Jeremy, Jared Sangwin and wife Nelda, Jeremy Reddin and wife Chelsea, Benjamin Reddin and wife Kari and 12 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be Monday, June 28, 2021, 5 ~ 7pm at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 10am at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Blake Alling of Calvary Baptist Church Port Arthur officiating.
Military graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens in Nederland, Texas.
