William E. "Gene" Carles, 90, of Huntingdon passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019.
Born in Altoona, Blair County, Oct. 3, 1929, he was the last survivor of Harry and Estella Carles. He married Neva J. Hess of Huntingdon July 18, 1954. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 2008.
Surviving are sons, Joe of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Bill and wife Jerren of Big Fork, Montana.
Mr. Carles graduated from Altoona High School in 1948.
He was a life member of the Altoona Alumni Association and a life member of Huntingdon Fire Department and the Central District Fire Association.
He was a loyal supporter of Huntingdon athletics, along with a group of loyal friends and Bearcat supporters.
He worked in the car shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) from 1948 to May 1956. He worked at SCI Huntingdon from 1956 until his retirement in 1986.
At Mr. Carles' request, private services will be held at the convenience of his family. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
