Carl E Kallansrud Jr
Builder Pilot Friend
"An Aircraft Builder, Pilot, and True Friend" is the message engraved on the plaque in honor of Carl N. Kallansrud at "Carl's Park" in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Carl was a charter member of EAA Chapter 211 and from that time everyone seemed to look at him as "Mr. EAA." He attended all of the conventions – from Rockford to Oshkosh.
Carl died on October 6, 1984 while he was doing what he loved best – FLYING. He had constantly instilled this great love of the sport to the people around him. Carl wanted everyone to like flying, and he was responsible for introducing many pilots to the art of building their own planes.
When it came to planes, Carl had two loves – Luscombe and Pitts. His first plane was an Aeronaca Champ, which he owned as part of a flying club. After that he owned three Luscombes, two 8A's and one 8F, two Pitts S-1, one he built himself and one he restored.
There probably isn't one of the 40 or so completed airplanes built in EAA Chapter 211 that Carl didn't assist with in some way. His tool making skills enabled him to build parts when none were readily available, and he never passed up a chance to help someone else.
Carl was a member of the Grand Haven Aviation Club and was named "Pilot of the Year" in 1968. The club also gave him posthumously a "Pilot's Friend" award in lieu of the "Pilot of the Year" award for 1984.

Husband of Neva; father of Peg, Carl, Judy and Nancy
