He was born the son of John and Helen (Abanese) Ward on Nov. 8, 1940 in Twinsburg, Ohio. Ron was raised on his uncles farm in Ohio. After high school Ron joined the United States Army and served 1959-1961 overseas in Germany with a artillery unit.
He owned and operated Wonderland Autowash in Livonia, and then moved to the Tawas area where he and his wife owned and operated the Green Gables Resort in East Tawas for 25 years. Ron previously served on the Board of Baldwin Township Planning Commission as well as the Baldwin Township Downtown Development Authority.
He was a collector of trains and proudly displayed them in his home for everyone to enjoy. He was known to have a green thumb and enjoyed spending countless hours in his garden and on his porch enjoying the beauty all around him.
Ron married Jeanette Enrici on Sept. 18, 1965 and together they shared 45 years of marriage and raised three children, all of whom survive him, David (Dafne) Ward, Jason (Sandra) Ward and Linda Ward; his brother, John (Helena) Ward; grandchildren, Estephanie, Steven, Victor, Zadie, Fletcher, and Jarret. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; and his sister, Debbie Borrie.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. The family will welcome friends at the Tawas Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
