In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Ann Gallagher in 1999, his twin brother, Bernard J. Gallagher, brothers, John V. and Thomas F. Gallagher and sisters Kathryn White, Bernadette Troup and Patricia McKinnon.
A graduate of Lincoln High School, Midland, he retired after 40 years of service from Crucible Steel Colt Industries, Midland, where he had been employed in the cold strip department. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was the former mayor of Glasgow Boro (Smith's Ferry). He was the owner of Child's Pipe Shop for 23 years. He was a member, past treasurer and board of directors member of the American Legion Post 481 and a member of the Tri-State Korean War Veterans. He was active in youth sports, coaching all different forms of sports. He was a founding member of the Western Beaver High School Boosters.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Hanlin Watkins Gallagher, at home, daughter and son-in-law Karen Gallagher and David Adkins, Wellsville, OH, son and daughter-in-law, Daniel V., Jr. and Sandra Gallagher, Smith's Ferry, step daughters and sons-in-laws, Susan and Steven Linger, East Liverpool, OH and Nancy and John Pethtel, Rogers, OH, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A Blessing Service will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father John Naugle officiating. Visitation will continue from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. in the D. L. Williams Funeral Home, 848 Midland Ave, Midland.
Private interment will take place at the Columbiana County Memorial Park.
