Bob "Blue" Black, 77, passed away on June 13, 2021, in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Bob Black was born on August 22, 1943 in Nashville, TN, to John Black and Mary (Collins) Black.
Robert graduated from Ottawa High School in 1961 and went on to earn a Computer Science degree from Kansas State in 1972. He started his career at Missouri Pacific in 1972 as a programmer analyst. He quickly decided he wanted to work for himself and moved back to Kansas. He started the first ServiceMaster franchise in Pittsburg. He later formed Alternate Systems, initially a mail distribution service and later a cleaning company. He also owned and operated several other small businesses throughout the years.
Bob married Judy McLain in 1969. The couple had 3 children, Michelle, Tim and Belinda.
Bob "Blue" was best known for his vintage Harleys, building several nationally recognized show bikes. He enjoyed traveling to blues festivals and motorcycle events.
Bob also served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1964-1967, with 13 months of foreign service during the Vietnam War. He was decorated with multiple medals and badges.
Bob is survived by Michelle Mortenson (Dan), of Cherokee, Timothy Black (Lisa Center), of Pittsburg and Belinda Tipton (BJ), of Pittsburg. He is also survived by grandchildren, Aaron and Dakota Begay, Taylor Black, Mekayla Tipton-Swallow, Parker Tipton and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Claude and one sister, Jane.
Bob is being cremated and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made in Bob's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
