A dear friend of his gave him the Hawai'ian name "Kū Ha'aheo," which means "to stand tall or stand proud," and that's exactly who Don was and how he will forever be remembered.

Predeceased by his maternal grandparents: Arthur Gillette and Louise Mann Gillette; and his paternal grandparents: Conrad Bigelow and Mary Giroux Bigelow Lavallee.
