Westliche Post, St. Louis, Mo. 2-16-1900 (translated):
Laid to Rest.
The funeral of Mr. Hugo Kromrey, who departed this life under such tragic circumstances, took place yesterday afternoon from the home of his loyal long-time friends, the Soboleski*** family, 3019 St. Vincent Ave. Numerous mourners had gathered at the home to take a last look at the remains of the deceased. The coffin almost disappeared under the abundance of flowers that had arrived from near and far as the last tokens of respect. The funeral service was given by Mr. Max Hempel, who remembered in warm words the many good qualities that had distinguished the deceased. After Mr. Hempel had finished, six old friends of the deceased bore the coffin onto the hearse; then the cortege set off for Bellefontaine Cemetery, where the deceased's remains found their final resting place in the Soboleski family plot. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Dreieichmann, Von Vergen, Morell, Dr. Staudinger, Horn and Bendheim.
-----
His death was a suicide. Afterwards, there were several reports that his business accounts had missing funds.
