Update: July 2023 her mother was sentenced to 300-372 months (25 to 31 years) in prison.

Meigellic was a wonderful little girl, gone from this life far too soon. She liked unicorns, pocketbooks, Peppa Pig and cheesy tots. Jelli lived with her father nearly her entire life. She never saw her mother until Jelli asked about her. Her father invited her mother to visit during Jelli's 4th birthday party and they thought her mother could get to know her over the weekend by letting Jelli spend some time with her. For unknown reasons, her mother made excuse after excuse why Jelli couldn't be returned to her father. It is believed Jelli died within days of being with her mother.

"A North Carolina mom allegedly forced her 4-year-old daughter to stand for three straight days as punishment, causing the girl to become so weak that she fell and suffered fatal injuries, authorities said.
Malikah Bennett, 31, of Charlotte, has been charged on suspicion of murder and child abuse in the death last year of her daughter, Majelic Young, news station Fox36 reported.
Police said the girl hadn't been seen since last summer before her body was found in May in the family's backyard, the outlet reported. An arrest warrant revealed that Majelic had likely been dead since August 2020."
(Newspaper article misspelled Meigellic's name)

A news report in January 2022 reported the comments from Judge Karen Eady-Williams, Superior Court Judge: "A human being tortured her daughter to death. Pure torture. Innocent little soul, the photos are bothersome. Pictures of busted lips, bruises all over her body. You forced her sister to help bury her in a shallow grave. Statements from the 13-year-old sister describe, you hit Meigeillic, punched her and threw her up against the wall, made her hold large jars of drink in each hand while standing in the laundry room," said Eady-Williams.

Jelli's father has moved into the apartment where she spent the last days of her life.
