Sandra Faye Nickerson was born March 5, 1957 at Naval Hospital, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL to Jesse and Louise Nickerson. She is the fourth daughter of eight children. Her family moved to Zion, IL in 1970 where she attended Central Jr. High School. Afterwards, she attended Zion Benton Township High School (ZBTHS). While at ZBTHS, Sandra was a member of the varsity cheerleading team and the girls basketball team. She graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1975. After graduating, she continued her education at Barat College in Lake Forest, IL majoring in Drama/Theater Arts.

Sandra was an active member of Faith Tabernacle Church in Zion, IL where she confessed her life to Christ. While attending Faith Tabernacle, she participated in various activities by volunteering wherever she was needed, including becoming a gospel radio DJ. Before becoming a loving and caring mother, she continued her journey as a member of the Arkansas Gems, a semi-professional traveling basketball team that traveled within the United States.

Not only did Sandra love her children more than anything, she also loved being with family and friends. She gave her heart to everyone. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Louise Nickerson; sister, Ida Mae Hayward and great-grandson Cameron Gordon.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Eugene Wakefield, III of Zion, IL; daughter LaTasha Wakefield of Kenosha, WI; eight grandchildren, Kamiah Wakefield, Michael Cansler, Dontae Scott, Davontae Scott, Diontae Scott, Jamari Scott, Jeremiah Scott and Lariyah Davis; two great-grandchildren, Kamarion Wakefield and Ashanti Gordon; three sisters, Anita Nickerson of Racine, WI, Deborah Tucker of Zion, IL and Jacqueline Nickerson of Zion, IL; three brothers, Jesse (Rayeanne) Nickerson of Beach Park, IL, Kevin Nickerson of Tampa, FL and Christopher Nickerson of Round Lake Beach, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
