English Nobility. She was the first wife of John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire; they had three daughters: Caroline, Harriet and Sophia. She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Drury, 1st Baronet and his wife Martha Tyrrell. Mary and Hobart were married at the Drury’s resident on July 14, 1761, and she was given the title of “Countess of Buckinghamshire” on the same day. After Mary’s death, Hobart married Caroline, daughter of William James Conolly and they had a daughter along with three sons who died before the age of three years old. Since Hobart had no surviving male issue, he was succeeded by his half-brother, George, who would receive the title of Earl of Buckinghamshire. Both she and Caroline were buried with Hobart in the family mausoleum, which is pyramidal structure designed by architect Joseph Bonomi the Elder, based on the Roman tomb of Cestius Gallus. Lady Carolina Hobart, their oldest daughter, inherited upon her father’s death the Blickling Hall and the Norfolk estates for a total of 8,000 acres.
