Dace Atiese Mines arrived at Kaiser Sunset Hospital on Friday, October 8th 1971. It was 110 degrees that day and it was Just 7 days after Disney World Orlando opened (Dace and Disney would later become close friends). Dace was the second of three children born to Arkley and Jan.

Dace moved with her family to the Pacific Northwest at the age of 3 and went through the school system there. She was a member of Community AME Zion Church where she sang in the youth choir. She also sang with her family Gospel group that traveled throughout the Northwest. Dace graduated from Mountain View High School in Vancouver Washington prior to attending the University of Washington.

In 1993 Dace moved her home to Southern California to help care for her grandmother. In 1996 she married Jessie Wilson. Their union brought forth two beautiful daughters, Kathryn and Kayla Wilson.

Dace was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Church. She taught Vacation Bible School, was an instrumental part of Media Ministry, & loved her Pastor.

Dace held various positions always gathering friends along the way. She found a home at Deloitte & Touche and remained there until God called her home.

Dace fought a good a good fight, but the battle wasn't hers, it was the Lord's. Cancer had her body, but not her spirit. God never said the journey would be easy, but he did say the arrival would be worthwhile. So after much pain and suffering, on Friday, October 19th God sent his angels to escort her home.

She is survived by those two beautiful girls, Kathryn and Kayla, her mother Jan Akins, father Arkley Mines, step father Ulysses Akins, sister Virginia Mines, and brother Maurice Mines. She also leaves behind, 3 aunts, 2 uncles, 16 cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.

Dace will be laid to rest just above the Disney Animation Studios.

Dace A. Mines was my cousin. Dace and I are exactly one year and 3 days apart. There are so many memories I shared with Dace. Her many nick names, Gucci D, Diamond Luv, Dacey-Pooh, and similar to Amazing Grace, there was Amazing Dace.

I visited Dace every summer since I can remember. She grew up in Vancouver Washington. Every summer I looked forward to visiting Dace in Washington. I remember taking a 2-hour road trip in her parent's black, I think it was a Cadillac car. It was just Dace and I going down to Seattle for her to take a college exam. Listening to Easy E on a cassette tape. I loved to hear her sing, she had a beautiful voice. That went perfect with her smile. That is one thing I will always remember. Dace always had such a huge smile that was magnetic. If she smiled, you couldn't help but smile back.

We always kept in touch by writing when I returned home, and I have all of her letters still. I remember growing up, us saying we would be in each other's weddings, and we accomplished those dreams. She was in mines, and I was in hers. I remember going down to Washington in 1989 to see her graduate from high school. These are just a few memories out of memories that cover her lifetime. I could go on and on…. I am grateful and thankful to have had such a wonderful cousin who had such an impact on my life; in a way that I will never forget. She is greatly missed by me and all her family and friends who loved her so.
