Betty Jo Etheridge passed away Nov. 9, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Havana United Methodist Church with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memory Chapel in Tuscaloosa.
She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She lived her entire life in Havana, Alabama where she was a faithful member of the Havana United Methodist Church as well as the Havana Community Club. She worked over 42 years and retired from Vanity Fair Mills in Demopolis.
In addition to nurturing and loving her family and friends, she always did the same for animals. She loved her cat Susie and dogs LuLu, Brandy, Sambo, Princess, and Moonbeam, to name a few. She would always remind each of us to be patient with each other, say something kind to others, laugh everyday, be kind to animals, and most of all to take care and love your family. She was not afraid of death because she looked forward to seeing her family who had passed away before her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Clifton Abernathy, Sr. and Lenna Dean Abernathy, and her brothers, Clifton Abernathy, Jr. and William "Morris" Abernathy.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Etheridge; her brothers, Thomas Abernathy (Barbara) and George Abernathy (Bernice); and 13 nieces and nephews and their families.
Pallbearers will be Autry Elmore, Brian Abernathy, Scott Johnson, Scott Reynolds, Ricky Washburn, Matthew Reynolds, Ronnie Abernathy, Stephen Abernathy, and Derrick Turner.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Brian Wilhite, the staff of Greensboro Home Health Care, the staff of DCH Cancer Treatment Center, the staff of Hospice of West Alabama, and the staff of DCH ICU 2nd Floor.
The family wishes to thank all who have assisted in the care of our beloved Jo-Jo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Havana United Methodist Church, 458 County Rd. 42, Moundville, AL 35474.
