Earl Ray Evans, age 83, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Beaumont, Texas; peacefully, with his family by his side. He was born to Earl Evans and Jewel Boyett Evans, on January 27, 1938, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was survived in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Floylene George Evans; sisters, Helen Pharr, of Dallas, TX, and Betty Richardson, of Vinton, LA; daughter, Theresa Burns, of Orange, TX; son, Darrell Evans and wife, Kristin Evans, of Orange, TX; Honorary "2nd" daughter, Joanna Hambrick and husband, Michael, of Orange, TX; Four grandchildren, Tyler Evans and wife, Destiny of Dallas, TX, Meagan Breaux and husband, Kaleb Breaux, of Orange, TX, Kailon Howard, of Singer, LA, and Blake Rosalis, of Orange, TX; Three great-grandchildren, Brynlee Breaux, Lane Breaux, and Parker Ray Breaux, all of Orange, TX, all of whom he loved very much.
Earl Ray Evans graduated Vinton High School, in Vinton, Louisiana, in 1956, and continued his education at Sowela Institute and Lamar Institute of Technology, in Beaumont.
Earl enlisted in the US Air Force in December of 1956 and served 4 years achieving the rank of an A2C. Earl was stationed at Hawaii, Japan, Wyoming, and Nebraska.
After he was discharged, he returned to Vinton and worked for the Levingston Shipyard in Orange, Texas, for 20 years. When the shipyard closed, he worked for Brown and Root, and various other contractors, until his retirement, in 2001. For a number of years, Earl helped organize the annual reunion of Levingston Shipyard Workers.
For many years, Earl coached Little League baseball, as well as Junior Football. He enjoyed working with the youth and watching "his boys" grow up.
During his years in the service, Earl developed an interest in bowling and bowled in league play there. Upon his return to Orange, he also played with several bowling teams, active in league play, at the Orange Bowling Lanes.
Earl enjoyed playing golf with friends at DERA, in Orange, as well as Frasch golf course, in Sulphur, LA. He hit a hole-in-one on two separate occasions and these were the proudest achievements in his golf playing years. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing with family and friends. He was an avid reader, particularly enjoying old western novels. He would spend his time after retirement reading the newspaper, working crossword puzzles, listening to classical music, and watching the birds, while drinking coffee on the patio with his wife.
Earl and his wife, Floy, are charter members at Trinity Baptist Church, in Orange, TX.
Visitation will be held at Dorman Funeral Home, Orange, TX, on Wednesday evening, June 16, 2021, between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Ryan Chandler officiating. Interment will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park.
