Journalist, Author. While on staff for the Scripps Howard News Service, he was recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on nepotism and corruption in the United States Congress in 1960. His father was an attorney and local politician, Vance broke into the newspaper industry at the age of fourteen, when he worked as a cub reporter with the Okemah Daily Leader. He wrote for publications in Wewoka, Oklahoma and in Texas, before landing a job as a reporter for Scripps Howard News Service in 1939. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant with the United States Army Signal Corps and continued reporting for the Army newspaper. Additionally, he wrote books on such famous personalities as Sam Walton, Bing Crosby, Will Rogers and Ronald Reagan.
