Leona then lived in Harvard, Hooper, and finally Homer. At all these places she worked as a cook in schools and at Homer, she worked in South Sioux City at the Hormel Packing Plant managing the cafeteria. Before landing in Homer, she married Frank Jenkins and gained four stepchildren. She was known for her homemade bread, cookies, and cakes whenever she cooked. She would help any family member at the drop of a hat, bringing with her that family member's favorites. Be it beef and noodles or chocolate bars. She was a stickler for discipline, having been observed to pull herself up to her entire 4'10 ½", raise her arm over her head, and poke a misbehaving teenage 6'2" son in the chest with her forefinger for emphasis on her words.
Leona was known by many names, Leona, Sis, Aunt Sis, Mom (even by her crew at the Hormel Plant), Grandma, Grandma Loney, and My Little Mama. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jack, Jim, Jerry, and Bill, her two husbands and three stepchildren, Mike Jenkins, Karen Mann, and Shirley Logan. She is survived by sons Bill (Vicki) Hadan, Tim (Annette) Hadan, and Mitch Hadan, stepdaughter Janet Jenkins, brother Terry (Joyce) Malone, and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.
She will be sorely missed.
