James "JL" Melton, 85, of Hutto went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

JL was born at home on January 22, 1936, in Taylor, Tx, to Raymond and Eva Melton.

He Graduated from Hutto High School in 1955.

He grew up with one older brother, one older sister and one younger brother.

He was married to Ethel Perrin in 1957, (later divorced) to this marriage came four children, Justin, deceased, Gayla, Tammy and Winona.

J.L. worked for the Highway Dept. when Inner Space Caverns was discovered in Georgetown, Tx, when a crew was drilling to put in a overpass for IH35.

He Loved hunting and digging for arrowheads and using his metal detector to find all kinds of things like jewelry, coins and pull tabs from cans. He found a lot of pull tabs and rusted bottletops.

He also had a Love for fishing, that he passed onto his children, more so to the girls than Justin.

He grew up on the Blackman Farm, Northeast of Hutto, so his siblings and him knew the definition of hard work.

Later on in life he took up the hobby of writing short stories, about the old west and Native Americans. He has written over 50.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Jimmy Melton Sr., Sister, Geneva Barnes, and his son Justin Melton.

He is survived by his children, Gayla Freeman, Tammy (Perry ), Winona Hawkins. Eleven grandchildren, Fifteen Greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Providence Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 21,2021 at Providence Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in J.L.'s name to the Alzheimer's Association.
